Surgery date is set...now lets gets this thing out!!!!
August 25th, 2006
I feel like everything I post these days are so negative and depressing. I promise I have so many positive experiences but when I have so many Dr's visits etc its hard to post the great things that’s been happening in my life.
I just wanted to let everyone know that I went to the Dr in Houston yesterday and they are 100% sure that it is a low grade cancer. Low grade cancer basically means that it won’t spread throughout my body and it will only attack and attach itself to the local surroundings in my abdomen. I also found out that I will get a prosthetic (sp?) in my abdomen. The Dr said that it would leave an ugly scar and you shouldn’t be able to see the prosthetic but some pl have complained of feeling it. My surgery will take about 1 1/2 hours which isn’t too long. The oncologist is sending me to a local OBGYN to be on call during the surgery, an anesthesiologist, and another specialist to do an ultrasound ...And unfortunately they are all in Houston so that means lots of driving and parking fees! She, my wonderful oncologist Dr Cormier, scheduled my surgery for September 18th which is on a Monday. If the OB thinks the baby is too much of a risk for miscarriage, preterm labor, or abnormalities she may put it off until I am 22 weeks (around the end of Oct) in case that happens they can try to save the baby. To be bluntly honest I have cried and cried and cried and cried and cried. I know that I will be OK but it’s just getting through the whole process.

Battling with appts, referals, & calls
August 21st, 2006
Since friday I have been battling with the Dr's office. I got a call thursday right before 5:00 from MD Anderson saying they needed an authorization from my Dr (didnt say which one) before I can get an appt. Dr Parrent, my general surgeon, called me friday and said that I have to get my MD to do it. I called twice on friday to Dr Herrons office, my MD, and was told that I would get a call in the evening...never did. I got a call sat from Dr Gayle, my OB, checking on me and making sure I have gotten my authorization, which of course I have not. Then I called at 8 this morning to let Dr Herron, my MD, know that I never heard from them on fri and needed this done. Receptionist said they would take care of is ASAP...never heard from them so I called again and about 5 min ago I finally got a call from Dr Herron's nurse, my MD, saying that they faxed it fri. Then I called MD Anderson and they received the fax, waiting for insurance approval, then we can make an appt from there. Now I have to call Dr Gayle and let him know. WHEW! Thats alot of work just for that. I already have 5 Dr's that are involved in this, My MD from FF that said it was scar tissue which I have to update, my MD from BCS, my OB, my general surgeon, my radiologist, and now the MD Anderson Drs that I have not found anything about yet.

Better News
August 16th, 2006
Ok well come to find out he said its better then what they initially thought it was. He said that he thinks radiation should be, if even needed, able to wait until after pregnancy (halleluah) and it doesnt/shouldnt spread like they thought either. I am assuming the growth rate from the 2nd pathology shows slim to none. Also it does attach itself to things so they still need a MRI at 15 weeks and they are in the process of doing a referral to MD Anderson (they are going to take over my case). He said they will get that set up today and I will get a call about an appt later on this week or next. Also agressive fibromatosis or a desmoid tumor is what its called. They are not truly benign because they are locally aggressive, but they do not metastasize like malignant cancers. So therefore I have no clue what you would consider me. haha! He said that its really rare just as the the spindle cell from the preliminary pathology.

Appt #1 for the day
August 14th, 2006
Appt #1
The results from MD Anderson are not in yet. The Dr said that he will call me when they receive them. I did find out that I am a candidate for radiation. If I do have to go that route then I will have to start it after the baby is born and I cannot breastfeed. He said if it has attached to my muscle or lymph nodes then there would be some removal of that. Again he told me that he may just send us to MD Anderson which is a cancer center in Houston. He doesnt want to send us there until he gets the final results. Also he did say that it will be a risky surgery since I am pregnant therefore that may be one reason for me to go there anyways. He just couldnt give us any more info then what we already know. I do have to wait until I am 15 weeks to get the MRI. He said that if he did an excision without all of the details then it would probably come back. I will be 12 weeks on thursday so I guess I will have a MRI soon. At 1:45 I have to go to my OB. My surgeon said he would call him when I got out of my appt so he would know what to expect when we arrive there at 1:45.
